‘Training’

Projects, Puppies, and a Bit on Preparedness

IMG_3650

Things are hopping here lately with wee puppies (whose eyes are opening–hooray!–I just love when they first open their eyes and are looking back at you.), older pups, gals in heat, more puppies on the way, and all of the projects that need to be done.   I am still working on the indoor kennels. [...]

Pigeons for Your Bird Dog

I think it is fairly well known how I feel about using planted birds and why I go to—what some might see as—extreme measures to get our Llewellin Setters into as many wild birds as possible. When this is not possible or in the off-season, I still have puppies or dogs coming in for training [...]

Pigeon Massacre

A mink raided our pigeon loft last night and got all but four of our training pigeons. I am devastated! We had a wonderful loft of racers that were fantastic for training. I prefer racing pigeons for training, as they get up and zoom straight back to the loft where as I find with feral [...]

Northwoods Bird Camp 2010 Comes to an End

Northwoods Bird Camp 2010 is now over. With a very heavy heart, I left my soul in the Northwoods and headed back to PA. I left seemingly endless forests, peacefulness, clean air, friendly folks, and wonderful opportunities for the Llews and came back to, well, none of that. blah. The last weeks of camp were [...]

Northwoods 2010 Update Week 6

Stormy Day

Hello all. Week 6 of camp has been the least productive of all. We’ve only hunted about 3 days. Weather and work-load has played a major factor in keeping us grounded and when we did get out to hunt there wasn’t much to report. One day I set out to explore a new area and [...]

Northwoods Birdcamp 2010 Week 5

After a few weeks of lots of company, things are suddenly very quiet and I must say, a bit lonely, here in the Northwoods. The last group left today and it was quite sad! There are still some folks that I will get to meet and hunt with over the next few weeks, and lots [...]

Northwoods Birdcamp 2010 Continues…

I can’t believe I have been this awful at keeping the reports updated! So much has been going on and the landscape has drastically changed as well. Over the past week, Scott has arrived, one group has been here and left, and others have arrived. We were blessed to have family, friends, and fellow Llewellin [...]

Northwoods Bird Camp Days 16-21

Things are very busy here with folks coming and going. Scott arrived with the rest of our Llewellins–I really missed them! They are settling in and loving getting to hunt. Town and the woods are busier with more hunters and dogs. The weather is perfectly delightful for the week ahead.

Northwoods Bird Camp 2010 Day 15

I have been thinking I was updating the blog via my cell-phone application for several days–I don’t know where all the posts have been going, but they are obviously not here! Well, I have been here two weeks already. I can hardly believe how fast the time is flying by. The leaves are changing quickly [...]

Northwoods Bird Camp 2010 Days 8 & 9

Grouse for dinner tonight–who could complain? Not me! I say everyday that I am the luckiest girl in the world to be able to be here. We hunt for our food–and are successful! We had a change in the weather with severe thunder storms passing thru this morning, so I didn’t get out with the [...]
